Paddy Power is the biggest bookmaker in Ireland and the most successful bookmaker. The Irish bookmaker was founded in 1988 thanks to a merger of three existing Irish high street bookmakers. Paddy Power currently have 298 shops overall with 212 based in Ireland and 86 stores in the United Kingdom. In 2008, Paddy Power had a turnover of over €2.1 billion, which was up 4% on the 2007 figures. They also had an operating profit of €75 million which was up 5% on the 2007 figures. Paddy Power are currently offering 46 different categories including the biggest sports in the world including some of the rarest sports including table tennis, beach volleyball and chess.
